New porcelain tiles hitting the market

One of the latest trends hitting the flooring market is porcelain tiles that look like hardwood floors.

For many homeowners, the rich look of wood is too good to pass up. As good as the look is, in Florida, it's not always the best choice. From our high humidity, rain storms, roof leaks, etc, wood floors look great and can be a bit more high maintenance for some.

If that's the case, there are some great choices for the wood look with porcelain tiles. If your air conditioner leaks (and doesn't everyone's in Florida from time to time), with a floating floor you will may have tons of issues. Outdoor Patio Flooring

There's a fine line between a deck or patio and an outdoor living room.  In many homes, the boundary between indoor and outdoor space is blurry, and dining and lounging move outdoors for the summer.  If you're considering building an outdoor living room or bringing your existing porch or deck up a notch, you'll need to consider flooring options.  The flooring options for an outdoor living room can be as diverse and varied as your imagination.

Wood Decking: This type of flooring is often found above grade, as it is one of the easier ways to provide a sturdy, level and weather-resistant surface.  Many decks are comprised of real wood, but composite materials and a multitude of synthetic materials are available. My personal favorite is a hardwood called Ipe.  Ipe is quite beautiful, durable and water-resistant.

Four easy steps to selecting wood flooring

A nice little article from the Leaderpost.com provides four easy steps in selecting wood flooring. The premise is also useful in selecting wood laminate or luxury vinyl tile.

Are you looking for something light or dark? Understated or with bold character? Choose the colour that best matches your décor from a wide variety of colours available in each species. For uniform hue and a clean look, opt for either "Select & Better" or "Premium" grades. If you enjoy more pronounced colour variation and wood with more character, you may prefer "Antique" or "Classic" grades.

From Red Oak, Hard Maple, Yellow Birch, White Ash, White Oak or Brazilian Cherry, each wood species has its own personality and distinct look (grades and width) that comes across in its maturity, hardness, and durability.
